A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Nicole Plourde, Lynn Moore, Donald Labrecque, Kenneth Proulx, Louise Valliere, Corinne Cascadden, Bryan Lamirande, Amy Huter, Gary Bisson, Dan Record, Roland Pinette, Cheryl Pinette, Lynne McGloughlin, Susanne Styles, Amelia Alton, Amy Bugeau, Clare Fox, Debbie Beaudoin, Lucille Lambert, and a member of the press.
MINUTES On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Donald Labrecque, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the December 5, 2013 meeting, public session. The motion passed unanimously.
WARRANTS On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Kenneth Proulx, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated, December 10, and December 23, 2013 for the amounts of $14,594.45 and $134,811.21. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.
FINANCIAL REPORT The Board reviewed and approved the financial report.
COMMENTS None
ELECTRONIC DEVICE On a motion by Kenneth Proulx, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to place Policy IJ-R, Electronic Device Policy on the January 2, 2013 agenda for a first reading. The motion passed unanimously.
TEACHER/LEADER The administrators reviewed the Teacher and Leader Evaluation Process.
CONCUSSIONS Lynne McGloughlin, Craig Melanson, and Clare Fox informed the Board of a NH State Law on concussions and ImPACT testing of athletes prior to playing a sport.
FULL DAY KDG Amy Huter gave the Board a presentation on Full Day Kindergarten. Kenneth Proulx feels a new elementary building is needed. Nicole Plourde feels something needs to be done and we need to consider all options. Nicole and Donald Labrecque feel a committee should be established to explore this option. The Superintendent recommended a subcommittee be formed with representatives from all the schools to include administrators and teachers. Lynn Moore and Nicole Plourde volunteered to be part of the committee. The Superintendent will set a meeting in January.
SUPER’S REPORT The Superintendent informed the Board of the following issues:
- Robert’s Rules of Order
- Review and amendment of Policy JLCC – Communicable Diseases
NON PUBLIC On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Lynne Moore, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 8:30 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II, (a), (b) & (c). On a roll call vote, Nicole Plourde, Lynne Moore, Louise Valliere, and Donald Labrecque voted in the affirmative; Kenneth Proulx voted in the negative. The motion passed by a 4 to 1 margin.
On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 8:53 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. No additional votes were taken in nonpublic session
STAFFING None
ADJOURN On a motion by Louise Valliere seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 8:55 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
